4th Annual Queen Annapolisa Pageant

For the 4th year running, the Calgary Chapter of the Apple Blossom Festival is hosting the Queen Annapolisa Pageant. Previous years have been a tremendous success, and the pageant continues to grow, evolve and wonderfully improve. This year's pageant will be even bigger and better than the last, with some new events about to be revealed.

The format for the pageant will be thus:
  • Preparation: During the King of the Green Tournament the Princesses will be responsible for making their sash. Each contestant should come equipped with an idea for a princess name, sash materials will be provided.
  • Introductions: After the ceremonial crowning of the King of the Green, the pageant will begin with the introduction of the Princesses vying for the title of Queen Annapolisa 2006. Each girl will introduce herself and explain why she feels that she should be crowned Queen Annapolisa 2006.
  • Mental Aptitude Session: In order to ensure that the Calgary Apple Blossom Festival be represented by only the brightest of girls, quiz questions related to apples, the Annapolis Valley and the general greatness of Nova Scotia will be asked. The first princess to ring in will have an opportunity to answer. If she is correct, she will be rewarded with a shot of Grower's Apple Cider and the favour of the judges. If she is incorrect, the judges will proceed to the next Princess until the question is correctly answered and the shot is taken.
  • Intermission/Preparation: The judges tend to get a little restless by this point in the evening, so an intermission will be taken for them to stretch their legs and discuss sports and sex. This time will also be used for the judges to prepare their questions for the final event of the pageant. The Princesses can use this time to prepare for the next event.
  • Evening Wear: Each Princess will use this opportunity to show the judges her sense of style, glamour and sophistication. She should come prepared with an evening gown of unparalleled hideousness. The Princesses will each take her turn to model her gown for the judges. This portion of the evening counts very highly in the Princesses' overall score for the pageant.
  • Personality Session: In this session, the judges will have a set of questions that they will ask each Princess. The way in which she answers the questions will have an enormous impact on the judges' general assessment of her. This portion of the evening will count the highest in the overall score.
  • Deliberation: The judges will confer, discuss and eventually arrive at the decision of who should be the next Queen Annapolisa.
  • Coronation: At last, the new Queen Annapolisa for 2006 will be announced! The crown and scepter will be presented by Queen Annapolisa 2005, Princess of Acadia Kate Bostwick.
  • Adoration of the Royalty: The rest of the evening will be spent in awe of the Queen Annapolisa and the King of the Green. Celebratory drinking will ensue.
